The first time I saw the Tunisian Crochet Smock Stitch, it was love at first sight! I knew I had to make some designs with this stunning stitch. The Tunisian Smock Stitch Hand Towel and Washcloth Set is a great pattern for those new to this beautiful stitch (or Tunisian crochet in general). Better yet, the pattern is completely free on the blog! (I’m keeping my promise – all the patterns made with my box o’ cotton yarn will be free!) Read on for all the details, plus a video tutorial for the smock stitch!

Pattern Notes
This set uses the Tunisian Smock Stitch to create a beautiful texture, with sections of Tunisian Simple Stitch for interest and variety. If you’re new to Tunisian Smock Stitch, I highly encourage you to watch this video tutorial, as the “yarn under” is a little strange until you get used to it:
If you’re new to Tunisian crochet in general, this video shows the foundation row and Tunisian Simple Stitch: https://youtu.be/iwBLCENW3wk
Tunisian Purl Stitch: https://youtu.be/_OcErKmEadE
The return pass is always a “normal” return – to do this, ch1, then (yo and pull through two loops) until you get back to the start of the row (with one loop left on your hook).
Tunisian Simple Stitch 2 Together:
Insert your hook under the front bars of the next 2 sts. Yarn over and pull up a loop.
Yarn Under: Wrap the yarn around the hook coming up around the front side and toward the back. You’ll have to hold this yarn in place until you complete the next st, otherwise it will not stay. (See video above!)
