Dapple Hat Crochet Pattern

The Dapple Hat uses simple crochet stitches to capture the beauty of sunlight filtering through the forest canopy. My daughter named it the Dapple Hat, and I couldn’t have come up with a more fitting name! This hat features super simple construction and uses tapestry crochet for the colorwork elements. Pattern Notes

This hat is written as a one-size adult hat, fitting heads up to 24” in circumference. For a smaller hat (fitting ~20” in circumference), you can omit one repeat of the pattern – use only 72 rows of the brim and work the hat with 72 stitches around. If you choose to do this, I recommend shortening the length by a couple of rows.

You can optionally omit a few rows to reduce length, as desired for custom fit, and it does not particularly matter which rows you omit.

In the pattern, G stands for green, and Y stands for yellow (though of course you’re welcome to use any color you prefer).

To change colors: On the stitch before your color change, complete last step of stitch with new color (e.g. for single crochet, insert hook, yo and pull up a loop still with old color, then yo with new color and pull new color through both loops to finish stitch).

All colorwork is done using tapestry crochet technique, so you will work over the other color when not in use. It’s okay if a little bit of the other color shows through, since both colors are very intermixed in this pattern. (curious about the different crochet colorwork techniques? You can see this video for more info.)
