Knitcrate December 2020 Unboxing

This month’s KnitCrate added a little sparkly pizzazz to the show with a stellina-laced DK yarn. See what came in this month’s crate, complete with an impromptu unboxing video where you get to see my actual face (what?!). Check out the December 2020 Knitcrate goodies below!

This week I’ve been taking a little break from the crochet biz to enjoy Christmas with my family, so I hope you’ll forgive me for not pulling out the lights for the photos this time around!

As usual, I let KnitCrate surprise me with the colorway. Once again, I would have been happy with any of the three options, though I admit I had my eye on the coral pink yarn in for the Energize Me color option. This purple is lovely though (the Chill Out color option). It has just a little bit of sparkle thanks to the included 10% Stellina to with the 80% Merino and 10% Cashmere.

This week’s surprise bonus is a drawstring bag printed with “Yarn Squad”. It’s – cool – I guess. I honestly don’t expect much from the bonuses. I will say that I’m happy to see a crochet hook stuck into that ball of yarn to go with the knitting needle! Then again, I’m not sure what a knitter would do with just one needle, but hey, whatever works.

KnitCrate has published their sneak peek for January’s yarns – they look sooooo soft and squishy, I’m tempted to take them up on the Double Down offer to pick up a few extra skeins. I’m also super tempted to pick my own colorway because I am loving the dark blue for their Chill Out colorway next month! Honestly though, the three colors go so well together I wish I could get them all.

The weight of this yarn plus the little bit of sparkle definitely leads me toward a lacy design. Honestly, this would be perfect for my dream crochet pattern – I’m just not quite ready to bite the bullet and start working on that one yet, though! Plus, I have no idea how much yarn it’ll take me, and KnitCrate’s yarns are once in a lifetime offerings – once they’re sold out, they’re sold out! That means if I didn’t pick up enough extra, I’d never be able to pick up more. I’ll have to do a sample and start figuring out my yardage for the dream dress so I’m ready next time a perfect yarn comes my way. 😉

Last Box’s Design

Last month’s KnitCrate included four 50g skeins of worsted yarn, and I just love the colorway I got! I designed these fingerless gloves featuring the spike stitch. Bonus – I’ve got enough left over that I think I’ll be able to make a hat as well! The testing call for these will be going out in January, and I’m planning on releasing the pattern in February! I’m thinking “Seaside Gloves” or “Seaside Mitts”. What do you think?

As always, I had fun designing these, though I’ll admit, my hatred of weaving in ends definitely put a damper on my love for this design, lol! This is also, I think, the first time I’ve designed a glove from the fingers down. I really liked the way the spike stitches looked pointing up toward my fingers, but that meant working in reverse, so to speak, with the glove design. You’ll get to try out using foundation stitches to create a thumb hole with this pattern, too!
