Knitcrate November 2020 Unboxing

This month’s Knitcrate was a big hit and a little miss, in my opinion. See what came in this months crate, with an unboxing video to boot! Check out the November 2020 Knitcrate goodies below!

Just like last month, I chose to let Knitcrate surprise me with the color selections – lucky me, they gave me my favorite of the three colorways! I just love the blues in this set, and the little bit of tan just brings it all home. So for me, the yarn was a big hit! It’s a basic worsted weight wool, 100% Peruvian wool. It’s not too scratchy, but it’s not out of this world soft either, just kind of… normal for a decent wool yarn.

The slight miss, for me, is the bonus gift. This month’s gift was a knitcrate pen. It feels a little cheap, but it works. *Update* I totally missed this…my kids discovered that it’s a flashlight pen, which does make it a little cooler, but still not my favorite.

I’m not sure yet what I’ll make with these beauties. My first thought was a baby sweater. Baby items aren’t my favorite things to design, but wouldn’t these just be so cute?! My brother and his wife are expecting a baby boy and these colors would be perfect! Unfortunately I quickly scrapped that idea since this yarn is handwash only. I absolutely refuse to make anything for babies that isn’t machine washable. Babies are gross (don’t get me wrong – they’re adorable and I love them, but they’re also drooly, spitty, and poopy), and new parents do not need to have to worry about handwashing their little bundle of joy’s handmade sweater. So you’ll just have to stay tuned to find out what these lovelies turn into.

Last Box’s Design

Since I’m challenging myself to try to design something with each box before the next box comes (though who knows if I’ll be able to succeed every month – it’s an adventure!), it’s time to show off what I made with last month’s box. This isn’t technically October’s yarn, but since last month was my first month with Knitcrate and they were having a special promotion, they sent me a bonus box of a previous month’s crate. This was technically August’s yarn, but since it came in October, I’m counting it as last month’s!

Right now, my youngest son’s favorite color is green, so when he saw this green yarn, he grabbed it and carried it around the house, insisting that it was his yarn. Of course, that meant I had to design something for him – and the Pebble Hat was born. I love the texture on this hat. It reminds me of Pebbles – hence the name. This design will be heading your way as soon as I can get it through testing!

(The hook pictured is an Odyssey hook from Furls Crochet – you can get one here!)
