How to Bind Off Tunisian Crochet in the Round

Tunisian Crochet in the round is a great, versatile technique, and today I’ll show you how to bind off (or finish off) Tunisian crochet in the round to create a smooth, gapless finished edge. You may have noticed that Tunisian crochet tends to leave gaps on the very last row – Tunisian crochet in the round is no exception. This easy technique will solve that problem, and it’s very similar to the bind-off for regular Tunisian crochet.

Supplies

You can use whatever yarn you’d like for this tutorial. Here’s what I used:

  • Worsted weight yarn of your choice (I used Caron Simply Soft in the tutorial)
  • Size I crochet hook – I love these Odyssey hooks from Furls Crochet!
  • Yarn/Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends.

How to Bind Off Tunisian Crochet in the Round

Binding off or finishing Tunisian crochet in the round is very similar to finishing regular Tunisian crochet. The only real change is that we first have to get rid of our second strand of yarn, the yarn you’ve been using for the return pass. (If you’ve never done Tunisian crochet in the round before, I recommend this tutorial).

The first step is to work the return pass until you have only two loops left on your hook. Now switch back to the forward direction. Pull the first loop on your hook (the one with the forward direction yarn) through the second loop on your hook (the last loop with your return pass yarn). Now you can trim off your return pass yarn.

Now insert your hook in the next stitch in the same manner you have been, depending on what stitch you were using – so if you were using Tunisian simple stitch, insert your hook as for a Tunisian simple stitch. Yarn over and pull a loop through the stitch and through the remaining loop on your hook.

Continue in this manner all the way around the circle until you come back to the beginning. Join with a slip stitch or invisible join to finish off, and you’re done!

In the picture below, see how the last row of Tunisian in the round before doing a bind off leaves gapping holes (the left side of the pic) – plus it will end with your return pass color on top if you do not do the bind-off row, which, in my opinion, does not look as nice as having the forward pass color on the top and bottom.
