The Butterscotch Ripple Cowl was designed for my wonderful local yarn shop, A Little Knitty, for the PNW yarn crawl. Jen, the owner of A Little Knitty, came up with the idea for this pattern, and I was more than happy to bring it to life for her! Each shop for the yarn crawl this year used a movie as their theme, and A Little Knitty’s movie was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, so the free patterns for the crawl were candy-themed, hence the butterscotch ripple! Now if only I could get my hands on some real butterscotch candy…Mmm. Read on to learn more about this pattern and where you can pick up a copy!

About the Butterscotch Ripple Cowl
I love the deep V of this cowl! The pattern comes in two varieties – a longer double-loop cowl, which is the version pictured here, and a wider single-loop cowl. Both feature the characteristic chevrons and the textured ridges formed with post stitches. The pattern is available for purchase from Ravelry and Etsy!
Materials
- Size F crochet hook
- Queensland Collection United Yarn (251y/1.76oz) or similar, 2 balls main color, 1 ball each of two contrasting colors. I used colors Lead, Aconite, and Robin’s Egg.
- 2 Stitch Markers (highly recommended)
- Yarn Needle & Blocking Mat/Pins
Sizing
As mentioned, this pattern includes instructions for two sizes – a double loop cowl, or a single loop cowl. The double loop version measures approximately 7.5″ x 54″. The single loop version measures 12″ x 24″.

Hi Mary,
I would love to make this adorable Ruth Shirt for my granddaughter who is 6 years old, very slender and tall. Would you be able to give me approximate measurements for a size 6 and 8? I believe the 8 would be the size to go with so that even if it is a bit too big she may grow into it.
Also, would you be able to tell me the stitches required to make this shirt.
Thanking you in advance for your reply.
