My 8-year-old daughter decided to get baptized recently, so we ordered her a set of her own scriptures. I had been working on a new scripture cover for myself MONTHS ago, but never got around to finishing it. I had this cool piece of rectangular crocheted lace and used a free tutorial I found online to cut out the pieces for the fabric scripture cover.

I wish I could link the tutorial for you, but it was so long ago I don’t remember which one it was! I thiiiink it was this one, but when I assembled it I totally forgot that the straps were meant to go all the way around and forgot to add the elastic. Anyway, I still think it came out cool, and my daughter seems to like it. 🙂

I sewed the lace onto the cover rectangle before sewing it to the lining, which worked well. I could have done a more careful job, but … I mean… it’s a scripture cover for an 8 year old, so the odds of it surviving unscathed aren’t super high.

The lace pattern was not my own design, either, and so I won’t be publishing a pattern for this one, although I think it would be a great idea to come up with one of my own at some point! I found this free lace crochet chart somewhere years ago and finally found a project to use it on. I’m sure any lace pattern that can be made into a rectangle would work well!
However, I DO have an awesome crochet pattern of my own to share with you hopefully in the next month, also related to my daughter’s baptism. I’m working on calculating additional sizes and waiting for pictures to come back! Can’t wait to share it with you. 🙂 Happy crocheting!
