Front Post and Back Post Double Crochet

Front post and back post double crochet (fpdc and bpdc) is a great technique. It’s the basis for many ribbed cuffs and basketweave patterns. To work an fpdc, yo as usual, but instead of inserting the hook in the next stitch, insert it around the post of that stitch from the front side.

When you work fpdc you make the stitch pop out like a cable on the front, and you create a ridge on the back. Conversely, when you work a bpdc, you make the stitch pop out like a cable on the back, and you create a ridge on the front.
